I really enjoyed this book! I thought the story was compelling and the author did a good job of creating a rich world for me to read about. I did find that sometimes the POV switching was a little much, but overall I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Nick DROVE ME CRAZY though at times. A very sweet but very dumb man. You aren't going to tell Rachel anything about your life? Whatever but you are going to let her walk into the equivalent of a ball and not prepare her? Anway.

The first half of the book really slowly and I’m not sure how I feel about it, especially in relation to the fact that this is the first book in a trilogy. Related to that the ending feels like we got to the climax and then it ended like 10 pages later without anything for you being resolved. Like a surface level initial problem is solved, but none of the bigger issues are dealt with, and I feel like we need to read the next two books in order to see that real emotional resolution and see how the characters are going to deal with the fallout of what was done at the end of this book.  If you’re going into this because you really liked the movie, expect the pacing to be very different. This can be read as a standalone, but I don’t think it is a satisfying standalone, and I think is probably intended to be read as part one of the trilogy . Other than that, I enjoyed the book for the most part although there are a couple funny parts that really place its cultural context firmly in the late 2000s and early 2010.

I’m so disappointed! I had high hopes for this because I LOVED the movie. Although I am listening on audiobook so I am aware it probably is a better physical read. It’s just hard to keep up with all the characters and stories and it’s a bit boring. I do like the voice actress tho.

Not something I usually read, but I found this book enjoyable, easy to read and entertaining. Ordinary life in extraordinary contexts, in this case social class, is always interesting.

This was a long adventure throughout the world of these extremely rich people. So much happening all the time, it was a lot to keep track of! I would really like to check the movie adaptation next and possibly continue the series.

😍 The good:
I felt that the narration was authentic and I enjoyed the diverse perspectives. The story seemed realistic and it kept having cliffhangers, which really made me curious about what is next. I really felt immersed while learning more about the culture. It was fun, while also having some thoughtful scenes. The audio version was really fast-paced, almost like a movie, and I liked the narrator.

😅 The not-so-good:
There were a bit too many characters to keep track of, even though I can understand their purpose. It also was a bit overwhelming in terms of jumping from one character to another... I kept forgetting what was happening to each of them.

I know, I know. I’m late to the party.

I’ve learned a lot about the wealth gap, classism, and money in general as I’ve grown up (and wiser, as they say 😉). But Crazy Rich Asians was something else entirely. While I know this is fictional, I wouldn’t be surprised at the amount of money people surely drop on crazy things simply because they can.

Crazy Rich Asians follows Singapore’s richest families as they work very hard… at upstaging their fellow rich frenemies. While the characters flaunt their money in abhorrently lavish ways, the author really draws attention to class discrimination, how many ways someone can turn up their nose at someone or something, and just how incredibly unlikable these characters were. But I guess that’s the point.

This one is for you if you love gossip, extravagance, scheming, and drama. Now I’m off to finally watch the movie!
