Woah. I was not expecting vol.7 to start there and I certainly was not expecting it to end there!
The tonal shift is only one of many in the series, but the most stark of them all (so far?), it was nice and shows Shuzo Oshimi's writing skill so well. 4.5/5!

As much as the compelling drama, uncomfortable suspense and sickening horrors of this series were my reason to keep reading this far, this volume is the one I've rated the highest yet and the one that left me the most curious, and fearful, for the next.
Everytime I have thought the calamitous end is in sight, it masterfully goes somewhere else entirely. Because of that, I suspect this may be the one-and-only volume that gets a 'hopeful' mood tick from me haha. I was so close to selecting 'yes' to the 'loveable characters' question but I don't trust this series enough to do that yet!

I haven't stopped reading since the first chapter, despite... well...everything in this horrible, painful, content-warning on every page manga but the page where Kasuga's new friend remarks about him still being a virgin and he awkwardly, yet silently smiles in return, when we, the reader, know he was raped, broke me. I had to turn my kindle over and take a break. Oof.
