Well, that was disappointing. The book ends when it's just getting interesting to give us a preview for another book that makes up 15% of the ebook.

I just needed something fast and lighthearted and this was it.
Nothing amazing but really enjoyable overall (although there are some kinda cringey parts)

This was a fun and fast read that I enjoyed. I would have loved a full novel so I really could have gotten to know the characters and felt them develop more.

Wenn ich das nächste Mal denke, ich bin zu sozial inkompetent, um irgendetwas Zwischenmenschliches zu verstehen, denke ich an dieses Buch.

Despite being incredibly cheesy, predictable, cookie-cutter, trope-y, even cliche, this was enjoyable because the characters weren't flat stereotypes. At the very least they were a composite of several flat stereotypes, but they were likeable, funny, and human.

“See, that’s the thing I hate the most about adulting: at some point, one has to start doing it.”

After reading Stuck with You and witnessing the tension between Sadie and Erik, whether it is inside the elevator or beyond that, I would've expected to see a similar tension between Mara and Liam. However, Under One Roof approaches a more subdued writing, focusing more on the domestic buildup between the two protagonists instead of the romantic and sexual tensions.

While it isn't a bad thing, it just feels like it leaves off a less satisfying conclusion in developing their romantic relationship. In fact, Under One Roof is almost conflict-free aside from the whole scuffle of being roommates in the beginning of the book.

Like Stuck with You, a novella like this is simply a quick romantic get-together story, so readers can't truly expect a fantastic climax or character development like thicker romance novels do. But as the main characters, Mara and Liam are actually likable. They're headstrong and idealistic, yet the difference is that Mara has a support system that encourages her to speak out her mind, whereas Liam still struggles despite having a best friend that has stayed with him since his childhood.

I truly like how Hazelwood still manages to maintain their playful nature when they start to be civil with one another instead of simply jumping into this blatant worshipping in the name of adoration. It's a healthy dynamic that also showcases their contrast in personality and dealing with conflicts as well as their similarities.

Overall, it's nothing to write poetic praise about, but it's still a nice fast-paced reading to let off some steam. I think Hazelwood really gets the hang of these academic or science-related romantic stories.

Enjoyed this book a lot! It was a nice quick read. Loved the slow burn and how all along from the beginning you'd know it would get spicy. Very easy and pleasing read.
