After moving to New Mexico, I learned about Bless Me Ultima, and it ended up on my TBR pile. I finally read it as part of both Banned Books Week celebration and Hispanic Heritage month. It was an interesting book, following the narrator, Tony, as he navigates his life after his grandmother, Ultima, comes to live with his family.

Of everything I have ever picked up and read, this one had the most affect on me longterm. Anaya's heartwarming tale of culture and spirituality is one that touched my core. It's something that everyone should read when they have a chance. As one of the most influential pieces of Chicano literature of all time, it's almose guaranteed that this is a great read.
