It was fine. Nothing special. Nothing to write home about. I liked the plot and the music app premise. This is my fifth Ruth Ware and she seems to follow a simple formula which is getting kinda predictable.

it's a great thriller that happens over a ski weekend holiday. Murder mystery, claustrophobic, satisfying ending. What more do you need.

This book has a really slow start. The pace picked up only during the quarter end of the book. And that was too late for me. I felt like I just wanted to get to the end.

Also, as a reader, I couldn’t establish any connection with the characters (save one or two) so from the get go, I felt it was obvious who it was.

I guess I expected more from Ruth Ware since I liked her other books. This one seemed jumbled, rushed, and hurried. So different from the rest.

3.5 stars.

This was the first Ruth Ware book I ever picked up, and I think that needs to be said ahead of sharing my thoughts. While the premise intrigued me, reading about for five plus hours had me pretty bored, particularly in the first half.

Overall, it was incredibly difficult keeping up with so many characters, and I didn’t enjoy the corporate/app aspect. Besides that, I didn’t feel a real connection with any of them besides Erin since we learn so little about our chalet guests. The ending was also dragged out — so much so that I skipped ahead.

That being said, if you typically enjoy Ware’s work and are an avid thrilled reader, I’d recommend One by One.

Special thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy in exchange for my honest review!
