Loved the setting and a few of the characters as well as the app- it was a fun idea that was fleshed out well. I didn't like the reveal- the killer's characterization took such a sharp turn from what it had been which felt lame, and the motivation ultimately didn't feel quite strong enough.

Loved the suspense and I was falling for every red herring! I think I like a few other Ruth Ware novels better, so I ranked this one a smidgen lower just to reflect that.

I just think the scenes following the Big Reveal felt a bit awkward and didn't really pull the ending together how I was expecting. Still great for the mystery and suspense though!

One author who fits the model of some books being hit or miss for me is Ruth Ware. I read The Death of Mrs. Westaway after seeing it hyped all over bookstagram a few years back and was really put off by it, so much that I didn't want to read another Ruth Ware book. My main problem with The Death of Mrs. Westaway was that I found all of the characters to be so unlikeable I didn't want to read about them. Also, I think that was a case where I had such high expectations from all of the hype that I felt let down.

But I kept seeing so many people gushing about her books, so I decided to try One By One & I am glad I did! This was a solid I really liked it from the Goodreads scale. I really enjoy closed room, or in this case closed ski chalet, murder mysteries. I think they really up the ante. While I won't say that every character in this book was likeable, I found it much more approachable and enjoyable then The Death of Mrs. Westaway. Also, this was a great time of the year to read the book -- very atmospheric.

If you are looking for a wintery murder mystery/thriller, I do recommend this one.
