Loved this book, took a while for me to get into it with the chapters jumping between 4 characters. But once I hit the half way point I struggled to put it down.

Love the way she writes so clever and funny and the characters are so well rounded, can't wait to read the next book !

“Her Majesty’s Royal Coven” by Juno Dawson is modern fantasy in England with hidden communities of witches and warlocks that are known to the highest government but no one else.  Four old friends have gone their own ways, practicing magic in different contexts.  Elle is a housewife, Niamh has become a country vet, Leonie has created a coven centering diasporic PoC and Helena remains the only one working for the government in HMRC, now High Priestess.  Niamh is asked to mentor some young magic users, including Theo, a traumatized and powerful young person who may be prophesied to destroy HMRC.

I love how this presents women that are firmly over 30, its difficult to find books that celebrate women over 30, especially urban fantasy. Plus I found the plotline with Theo very interesting
Spoilerthe way it explores terfism is very interesting, but also feels like our world. There is no allusion in Juno's writing, she hits us straight in the face with an issue taken directly out of our world
