It gets two stars for being heavily wierd. It should get one star but I’m nice. It’s quite disturbing.

I have not read the original and now that I have read the revised edition...I am very interested in doing a comparison between the two.
This book has a lot of dodgy elements but the afterword by Koontz made it all the more clear to me that those elements were actually bits of commentary and not Koontz's own views on gender.
Trashy but pretty interesting trashy.
Horny evil robot traps a woman inside of her home in hopes of creating a new super race of humans with its intelligence.
There is a birth scene that Koontz 'yadda yaddas' over which might be the most MALE piece of writing I've ever encountered. The robot flirting scene is hilarious and strange. Koontz should not be allowed within 20 km of Winona Ryder and the BIG topics Koontz tackles here could have been handled a bit better.
The revised edition really muddies the water in terms of when this is meant to be set? Because it is 3/4 modernized but its 70s origins still come out here and there. Specifically with the car phone, which is a big portion of the books best scene.
Still there are some sequences that are truly pretty great and the added short story tacked onto the ending is just straight up brilliant.

I didn't think Koontz's work would be my kind of thing, but my boyfriend persuaded me to try, and I discovered that I was wrong. Demon Seed was a short but brilliant introduction to his work.
