DNF. I usually love Penelope wards books but this one I just found quite boring unfortunately. Still love all her other books that I’ve read so far though

Oh how I adored these two characters, Francesca & Mack. They had me in fits of giggles with their banter and in a few tears with their retelling of their past together.
Penelope has written an amazing story about two people who find each other again. Fate at it's finest. I love how throughout the story we hear from both characters but we also get their retelling of the past, so we get the full story of what happened between the characters to get them where they are now.
Definitely a book you could devour in one sitting and one I highly recommend picking up. ^_^

This was a fantastic read. I love second chance romance stories, and this was one of those great ones. The plot was amazing, and the twists and turns within the plot line were fantastic. The characters were incredible as well. Frankie, the heroine of the story is a teacher who teaches 1st grade at a catholic school. Her character is reintroduced to Mack's character after several years. I loved her character. She was funny and adorable. Mackenzie Morrison or Mack, is the hero of this story. He has a son from a previous relationship. He is a great father and it is great to see all the twists and turns that his character goes through. The relationship between Frankie and Mack is amazing. They have fantastic chemistry. The ending was perfect. I can't wait to see what Penelope Ward does next. Overall, an incredible read.

I wanted to understand the collab Penelope Ward/Vi Keeland and I think I'm starting to get why these two duet on books like that. They do have some seriously similar style. However, while P. Ward takes her time with the burn, V. Keeland masters the tension and quick release better. Neither indulges much in creating atmosphere and overall, V. Keeland has my preference on snarky hot dialogue. That said, P. Ward's characters have serious history and I really enjoyed the slow build up to the inevitable conclusion.
I absolutely adored Mack and Frankie's history together, how they gradually became friends and how it turned into something more. I really loved how they were together without ever being together and just stayed in love throughout the years. The way Mack reappeared in her life wasn't that well done in terms of character introduction and the subsequent dialogues and conversations but it all really paid off with the flashbacks and once they get together (I don't think I'm spoiling much here, right?)
The writing is honestly super clunky. It has no soul at first and it really made me scared for the rest of the book. Maybe it's P. Ward's writing style. I have another book of hers so I'll be able to judge if that was a one off or if it's symptomatic of her style (does not bode well for more books if it is). The story takes a while to take off after that. You need to get into the past to actively care for the present and for the characters to do their magic. But it's quite a shame because it does feel like the story got away from the author and she did not give it the attention or editing it deserved.

There are so many things I love about this story. I love the friendship and the relationship development between the characters. I love the way the past is revealed. I love that it is about second chances and forgiveness. I also love the hot single dad in the story. Everything about this story just comes together for one beautiful and at times hilarious and heartwarming story. I absolutely loved every minute of it and was sad to finish. I am loving Penelope's work and can't wait to read more.

This book is stunning!
It was such an emotional read for me. I think I didn’t pay much attention while reading the blurb, especially to the last paragraph but when I started reading the book, it came to me as quite a surprise that both characters seemed to be in a relationship with other people. Francesca (or “Frankie” as Mack called her) was living with her boyfriend of two years Victor. And Mack seemed to be married to his son’s mother Torrie (luckily, I misinterpreted this part, and at least he wasn’t married to her anymore).
I absolutely hate any kind of cheating, even when a person is in a relationship with somebody, nothing physical happens with this other person (the third party), but that person still has feelings for somebody else than their current relationship partner. For the same reason, I hate love triangles. It’s just too much drama for me, and I can get very upset reading stories like this. And let me tell you, I realized that main characters had current or past relationships with somebody else, and I still couldn’t put the book down. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop. It was so well-written and addicting.
What can I say? I rooted for Mack and Frankie till the very end. They both were just wonderful. So nice, caring, mature, and so in tune with each other even after all the years apart. It’s very rare that I like both main characters exactly the same and don’t want to smack in the head at least one of them at some point of the story, but here I am, completely charmed by them both. I didn’t care who they were with before or even at the time when they meet again in the beginning of the book. There was just so much love, and loss, and all kinds of obstacles between these too, I cried through the second part of the book and thought it would never work. Literally, everything was against them. And I just knew, they were so right for each other, it would break my heart if they couldn’t be together in the end. I just didn’t know how this could happen...
I really liked Mack’s neighbour in Boston, Mrs. M. She was this wonderful 82-years-old woman with a whole lot of wisdom, the most understanding and caring heart... and the dirty mouth you would never expect on somebody her age. I think if it wasn’t for her, things would have gone very differently. She was a fairy godmother these two needed.
Even though we don’t see a lot of her, I also really liked Mack’s sister Michaela. At some point by the end of the book, I wanted to tell her, You go girl! You are thinking exactly the way I’m thinking and I would’ve done the same thing if I were in her shoes.
And of course, I need to mention a shy little boy with dark-brown curls and thick glasses, who I stole my heart from the moment he appeared in the book. It was Jonah, Mack’s and Torrie’s son. I just wanted to hug and cuddle him and shield him from all the bad things in the world. That poor kid with so much anxiety and other issues he had to deal every day. I’m no stranger to mental health problems, and if I could, I would’ve totally taken it all away from him. And just like Mack, I can’t thank Frankie enough for everything she did for little Jonah. She really did light up Mack’s and Jonah’s world.
I can’t recommend this book enough up to the point that I’ve just finished it and I want to reread everything again just because I can’t seem to let go of my two favourite characters and I want to experience everything again. And if there is one thing that I hate incomparably more than cheating and love triangles, it’s rereading something that I’ve just read. But the book is so good, and the story so great, I’m making exceptions for it from my every rule.

Once again Penelope Ward managed to captivate me with another stunning story. Mack Daddy remarkably turned out a way I wasn’t expecting and was filled with emotions that made my heart bursts. Such an exquisite and powerful love story. The kind of love portrayed between these pages was so pure and perfect, but with a lot of hardship!
Mack and Frankie were incontestably made for each other, but their love never came easy. They started as roommates than turned best friends and deeper feelings arose from there. They struggled with these new feelings for each other due to surrounding circumstances and never got to be a couple.
Now years later, Mack is back in town and one thing is sure, he wants Frankie as his, once and for all. He enrolls his son Jonah in her first grader class in the hope to conquer her, but there’s still multiple obstacles this time again before they can live their love: he has a jealous ex and she has a boyfriend. But even with the years apart, it’s easy to see that their hearts always yearned for each other.
That’s all this book is about, a boy and a girl fighting obstacles for this one of a kind love!

Even if they were completely opposites, they just clicked and Mack never judged her, even in her embarrassing moments. Their incontestable dynamic and the ever present feelings for each other brought an anticipation to finally see them together.
Mack Daddy was a very strong read that made me dreamy. I fell in love with Mack and Frankie’s relationship and all the struggles they faced. Penelope Ward succeeded in showing me that second chance romances never get old; the hope, love and passion in these pages is truthfully sublime!
