Osman goes all-in on Elizabeth and Joyce in this book, and it's mostly all-in on Elizabeth frankly. But Elizabeth worked best in the first book as a cipher, and I don't know that fleshing out her history in this book makes her a better character. Honestly, it might have made her more boring. Give me more old retiree mystery drama, please, with less spycraft.
Not to mention the fatphobia with Chris the police officer continues in this one.

Graphic: Police brutality and Murder
Minor: Fatphobia and Suicide
I adored this book! I love the British humor and the characters are so freaking lovable, it’s hard to not see yourself or a loved one in the main cast of characters. There are some throw away lines that may be triggering but a pretty big subplot is the police conspiring to put someone in jail for crimes they didn’t commit which could be triggering to people who have either experienced police misbehavior or are sick and tired of it.daryn's review against another edition

Enjoyed this one even more than the first, perhaps because I listened to this one? Nothing complicated, but I like it. I think I got some of the sarcasm/humor more reading it this way.
