I read this book because once I start a series I have to keep going, most of the time. I'm glad I read it. It had a faster pace then the first and all the introductions were pretty much done. I loved that Nina was much more involved this time around and that they let her into their world a little bit more. She is pretty bad ass!!

Much, much better than the first book in the series! Nina is finally settled in with Jared, and things are looking as if they will calm down. When she starts having nightmares every night, is unable to sleep, she has to live on caffeine to make it through school and work as the new CEO of her fathers company. The dreams get progressively worse, always showing her father, and Gabe stealing the book from Shax, and dying each time they almost escape. Jared is convinced that the nightmares mean something, especially when they stop if he isn't around. Claire thinks that spending so much time at her fathers company is the reason she is dreaming of him so often. Ryan is overseas fighting for our country, and Claire has her work cut out for her trying to keep him safe. He insists on saving everyone, constantly putting himself in harms way. Bex, Jared's little brother also plays a bigger part in this installment. Once they realize they reasoning for the nightmares, their next task is impossible.

***************************************Recap/ Spoilers***********************************
Ryan comes back from overseas, and swears that Claire saved him from his last deadly mission. After much persistence she finally tells him the truth that she is his guardian angel. He has been in love with her since she saved him, and it looks like she may come around to the idea. Nina learns that she is apart of a prophesy that says she will give birth to a child that will destroy hell. In order to find out what the prophesy says exactly, and to prevent the demons from killing her to prevent it, they have to steal back the demons bible. Kim was possessed as a teenager, and now has the ability to control demons. Her family kept the book safe from Shax for many generations until Gabe and Jack stole it. She agreed to help them find the book that their fathers stole from her family as long as they help her return it to the original place it was kept. By doing this her family will be free from the burden of guarding the book. Isaac is a half angel, he and his Taleh, Donovon both work for Shax. After stealing the book back, and a stand off between good and evil, both of them men are killed and a war was started. The book ends with Nina learning that she is pregnant, and the only way Heaven will help them is to protect their child. The Ryels job is to keep her, and the unborn baby safe until he/she is born. They finally go back to the little chapel they agreed on to get married before the baby is born.

Ah, the sequel to Providence. I usually struggle with the middle book in a trilogy. Most of the angst is gone because the couple is together, typically happily, and as great as that is, it can also be boring. They usually tend to feature an epic breakup or separation to set up the final book. I am ecstatic that Jamie didn't follow this script.

Okay, yes Nina and Jared are together, but they're not out of the woods and ready to get their HEA. Shax's book still eludes them and Nina is haunted by dreams. The book title plays a factor into that btw. She's reliving her father's death over and over --- but why?

I really loved this book. The intensity is amped up by 100 and really keeps you on your toes. The pacing was perfect and Requiem is action packed. Secrets are constantly revealed (to more than one person) and things really start to come together. The relationship between Ryan and Claire is really fun to witness coming into fruition. I still love Kim and her dry sense of humor. And Bex! My, how he's grown. He's turning into quite a force and might have been my favorite character in this book.

There were moments while reading that I felt my stomach cramp... I was just waiting for the worst of things to happen. The ending sequence was particularly brilliant! If you like battles, I think you'll appreciate this one. For me, Requiem is a solid sequel to Providence and really holds it's own in the series.

3.5 stars.

Nina constantly takes the form of the victim, and seems to be crying every other scene. While I could understand that in the first book, in this book it's almost 2 years after the fact- get it together! That was my biggest complaint about this book... she got on my nerves a little.
