I'll give this a solid 3.5 it was a really sweet romance. Straight forward steady read, a little rushed at the end. Loved the epilogue. More review to come

Farmer Jack. That's all.

In all seriousness though, this book gripped me and did not let me leave the small town. Margot is a wonderful and open character. I loved her vibrant strength and her enthusiasm to help the world and her clients. Her bright light shined on Jack at a time when he was hiding from all life and light.

Jack is one of the grumpiest men, but with good reason. His life was irreparably changed and he lives every day for his farm and his farm only. Margot is a threat he did not want on his land. But as with all opposites, they find that they have more in common than they thought, and suddenly Margot's light is infecting Jack and making him want to live again.

This book was beautiful. I don't have all the words for how wonderful this book was, but I loved every minute of it. Seeing Jack's journey of grief and learning how to live again was raw and real and poignant.

This had a little bit of everything. A-hole alpha male, funny sweet heroine. I found myself laughing, sighing and tearing up at various points in this book. Definitely a book to pick up.

4.5 stars!

Hear me out on this… I normally DESPISE the dead ex trope with every fiber of my being, but this book right here? It was beautiful. It was heart-wrenching. I can’t sing its praises enough. Was there maybe one or things I would’ve changed? Yeah, I think so, but it was still such an amazing read that I don’t mind looking past it for THE Jack and Margot <3

Trigger Warnings include:
grief, trauma, ptsd

Margot sweet and bubbly in broad daylight was tempting enough—Margot feisty and looking for trouble in the dark was downright dangerous.

I fell in love the moment scones started flying across the room. As you can imagine, Margot’s life isn’t exactly going as planned. So her co-worker/bff (who I loved) is happy to send her out of town for work to help her escape. And she escaped right on to Jack’s family farm ready to work and get the family business on the map! Not that he makes it easy. He didn’t want her there to begin with. And once she’s there, he wants her there even less. But then again…he doesn’t mind having HER there. He can’t escape her. And Jack does kind of want to. Then he doesn’t…then he does. It’s all very complicated, but easy all at once. Jack is dealing with a LOT. There’s a lot of emotions and feelings and heart and guilt when it comes to him. Margot is afraid of none of it. She’s not quite ready to just give up on him, and neither is his family. I loved their back and forth. She wouldn’t give up, and he wouldn’t give in. Jack knows he’s complicated, he knows he can’t make promises. But Margot doesn’t want conditions or labels, she just wants him. And her heart is willing to wait it out.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “I was determined to put you out of my head, but all I could think about was tasting you.”
• “Like strawberries in June. Cherries in July. Peaches in August.”
• “I want you to tear me apart. Leave me bruised. Mark tonight on my body.”
• “I know I could love you. I just don’t deserve you.”
• “I’m not looking for my first love. I’m looking for my last.”
• “You don’t know how beautiful you are when you’re happy.”
• “I’ll always catch you.”
• “Do you think they know what I’m going to do to you? Do they know how soon I’m going to have my tongue between your legs? Do they know how loud I want to make you scream? Do they know how deep you’re going to take me? Do they know I’m getting hard right now, thinking all the ways I want to f!ck you tonight?”
• “If I was wearing panties, they’d be soaked.”

7/10 Dirty Birdy
7/10 Second Chance
6/10 Tearjerker

How do I begin to describe how much I loved this book? My reviewer loved, raved and ranted about this book and bought me a copy to read. Jack is a broody and broken widower. He is an retired Army Vet who is suffering from PTSD. Margot is a bubbly and outgoing city girl. Like the old saying goes opposites attract. I loved the whole build of this couple, it was well paced and I loved feeling the connection between the two. Jack was so torn with his feelings over Margot. He was conflicted moving on since it's been 3 years since his wife died and he blames himself. When you find out the reason why he blames himself your heart just breaks all over for him. Several times I wanted to reach into my Kindle, hug him and tell him that everything will be ok! Then other times I wanted to shake him and tell him to get it together!!! Margot was a pretty good heroine in my book! She held her ground, knew when to push and knew when to walk away. I've never read anything by this author and she sucked me in with her storytelling. I felt all the feels while I was reading this story. She had me laughing, smiling and even shedding some tears! This was such a well written story about stepping outside the box and taking chances no matter how scared you are or how scary it can be. Life is too short and you need to seize the moment. I really loved this story and a book hangover is in full effect!! Well done Melanie Harlow!!
