I was surprised by the lack of queerness in the anthology, but then I checked & it did come out in 2014 (it shows. How strange the passing of time is).
Still, many nice stories!

Of particular note:
Sarah Rees Brennan—Wings in the Morning: there is a full fledge novel that I now want to read, I especially liked the fact that it was not set in the human world & the human characters were removed from it, it was interesting.

Nik Houser—Son of Abyss: so very good, leaving me with so much questions, I want to check out the rest of this author's work.

Such a fascinating and well written anthology of stories. It was even better reading it a second time through now that I’m older and can appreciate some of the messages even more. Very dark and at times sad, but all of the stories are beautiful and meaningful in their own ways.

Mostly enjoyable. Nothing was truly terrible, though I would say the two vampire stories were the worst (natch--I hate vampires). But nothing was really that great either. Ah well, not every book can change your life.

The world needs more anthologies. This one was fantastic. Loved Patrick Ness' The Whole Demoning thing and Sarah Rees Brennan's Wings in the morning but especially loved Paolo Bacigalupi's Kraken story.
