Listened for Fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 3.75
Story Rating: 3.50
Character Rating: 4.00

Audio Rating: 4.00 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back by Diana Rowland was not my favorite in the series but it was still full of fun, snark, action, and Angel Goodness!

Story Thoughts:First let me say this: The story did not suck. I have super high expectations cause Diana pretty much knocks it out of the park all the time. This time it just felt like I was waiting the whole book for something to happen and then felt more like it was a lead-in to the next book. Not that it is a bad thing but it just doesn't rank as my favorite in the series.

Character Thoughts: Same kick ass characters, Same kick ass time! In fact, there were a few characters that I started to like a bit more than I had previously. BIG plus resolution of that relationship I don't like. However, I think we are circling back but I hope I am wrong--they make better friends.

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Allison McLemore / Length: 14 hrs and 21 mins

Allison pretty much rocks every time! She is an excellent fit for this series and I wouldn't "read" it any other way :)

Final Thoughts: Angel has some big decisions in the future.

I got into a reading slump and didn't pick this up for a while. I tried to pick it back up, and I am still very much interested in Angel and rooting for her, but too much time has passed and I am not very invested in this particular storyline. I'm sad about it but the book is already overdue...

God, I love these books. I was saving the remaining three books for the next awful time. Thank you, first week of college!

This one had a the-four-of-us-against-the-world quality to it. Like the Percy Jackson books. I'm starting to like Philip more and more. Between him, Marcus, and Nick I don't know who I'll be rooting for.

I enjoyed many aspects of it. I mean the book had an actaul nihilist. How often do you see that?
It also had a couple of cliffhangers thrown around in the last chapters that make want so badly to dive right into the next book. Too bad I don't have it.

I love the audio so much, the accent is pretty will done and I don't appreciate it enough.

Really, really enjoyed this one until about the last page. Then I might have uttered, "Seriously? That trope?" And let fly a few blue words.

So far, this was my least favorite book of the series. Angel was a total wuss for at least 90% of the entire story! Let me be clear: I have no problem with strong female characters also expressing emotion. However, Angel's attitude consistently grated on my nerves. And the shoulder punching! Dear God, the shoulder punching. I thought it would never end! Who does that? Annoying people, that's who.

WHAT'S GREAT ABOUT IT: If you haven't read any of this series, it recaps a lot so is easily read as a stand alone.

WHAT SUCKS ABOUT IT: If you haven't read any of this series, it recaps a lot so is easily read as a stand alone.

There was zero real action until the last quarter of the book. I have always loved the zombie origin concept of this series and especially like the new theory of transformation. There are a few new questions raised, and I'm anxious to see where the author intends to take us. NYC was a welcome change. Now, on to Dallas?

Yes, I will reluctantly read the next in series. Alas, the ending of this one hinted only to increased disappointment. I'm tired of rooting for Angel at this point, and she's gonna have to work hard to win me back!

Ahh yes! We get more of Angel and her zombie baby. This book has so much action and it really gives you a play by play of what is going on behind the scenes that Angel doesn’t know everything and its getting given out in pieces no pun intended there. ;)
Marcus and Angel are going through a bit of a rough patch but Angel and her father are doing better than ever. I really enjoyed this book on to the next!

I love the narrator! She does voices and gives each character their own voice its awesome.

The more I think about it, the more I realize only the first book was all that good.

Here we are. I really liked the first couple of books in this series and then stuff started to go down extremely fast. So what's wrong with this series now?

Angel and Phillip are starting to have rot that doesn't go away with extra brains, just as Dr. Nikas and Pietro are kidnapped by the enemy faction of the Saberton Corporation. So it's up to Angel and Co. to get them back.

The thing about Angel was how she had glaring issues. She wasn't educated, wasn't some kind of super genius or a gigantic soldier to kick all asses. Angel was Angel, the type of person who did what she could and winged the rest. Wasn't always enough, it never is, but hey. You could feel for her in a way. Many people disliked her based on many factors and that was fine, nobody is universally loved by everyone. Men also weren't constantly all over her, because again, that's just a stupid book cliche that I hate.
What changed? Everyone fucking LOVES Angel and she constantly gets chances to do things she is in now way qualified to do. When she fucks up they just explain it away, because meh, Angel is just so amaaaaaazingly cool we can't stay mad at her. The cool characters worth caring about all automatically love her and will yaaaas kweeeen her to hell and back (like Naomi, Jane, Dr. Nikas, Dr. Leblanc). At this point even all the eligible men are all over her ass, from Randy, to Marcus, to Nick, to Phillip.
They also do this very premature and stupid thing. When a character in media is consistently very typical in a way people are like "that's so X". You know. Like freaking... Naruto (I'm sorry, this is a stupid example) behaves in a certain way and says certain things consistently for 15 years or so, so people can remark on certain things being typical Naruto. But here the character who have known Angel for like a year all act like she has her big things and something is like SOOOOO ANGEL. Excuse me? Other than being rude she never does anything that special.

The whole thing lost its touch. Other than the "Angel is wonderful effect" we have the problem of this book being some sort of a weird spy thing and doing extremely badly at it. Why are we wasting pages upon pages on the characters shopping for supplies at Walmart for the roadtrip? Who the shit cares about them eating pizza at the hotel? Also, the typical super girly makeover which is a must for some reason, though it is boring.
The pacing of the thing is bad.

At this point I'm done with the series. It's not a fun thing anymore, but devolved into a typical, boring thing that tries to sell a heroine to us who is simultaneously super normal, boring and relatable, but also super popular, good at everything and at the top of every single thing.

Good night and hope I find something to read that's not trash!

It's fun seeing Angel becoming such a huge part of the the "Tribe", even if it was a bit unbelievable at times - I mean all these trained operatives and Angel is the one doing things? I'm looking forward to reading the next one... Starting immediately. Full review to follow.

I found the story line less interesting in this one, but it has a nice twist at the end that makes me want to read the next one.
