This book had epic aspirations and started off lovely dark and eerie with Charon's adopted daughter, living a life on the edge of the underworld, but it failed to live up to its promise for me. The entire thing felt rushed, and the hero and heroine's relationship was not developed at all.

I admire the author's attempt to take us to so many places and play out dramatic scenes, but with the novella length we never had the chance to invest in any of the characters. A simpler, more focused tale would have been more poignant.
