Slow start but wholesome finish. The story and characters definitely grew on me as the book progressed. Definitely feel good kinda vibes. Low stakes.

"You are not so terrible, Em. You merely need friends who are dragons like you."

Two autistic academics match each other's freak. Includes delightful banter, tense yearning, and fae that leaned into the weird magical elements.

Absolutely adored this!! Pure cosy vibes, amazing banter, and probably my favourite FMC ever. I read her as autistic which made her all the more relatable.
The academic focus and this book being her journal made it all the more enjoyable.
Can't wait to read the next book :)

The main characters were not likeable through the majority of the book. They didn't really change by the end either. I struggled reading through the first third of the book, and more enjoyed the second and third however the ending felt rushed and incomplete. I enjoyed the descriptions of fairies and the side characters but the stakes were low and when they were high they were solved so quickly it didn't matter. An okay read but I'm not going to buy the sequel.

I wanted to dnf so badly during the first half of the book, which was too slow for me. I was not a fan of the journal format with Emily’s semi-formal writing style. It removed a lot of the wonder and excitement about her encounters. But my friends raved about the book, and I did love the setting and the characters, so I pushed through. Thankfully, the second half was much more enjoyable and I finished with some interest in continuing on to the second in the series.

This was an unexpected delight. I did not realize I was going to have this much fun. I love an autism/adhd pairing, and I especially love Emily and Bambleby. The surrounding townsfolk are also interesting and loveable. I love the world and the motivations feel very real. I can't wait to read more.

I was charmed by the world building and the way Emily interacts with the world. I also enjoyed Wallace as well. The two of them together are such a silly adventure.
