I read this to my kiddos at home and they really enjoyed it! It didn’t hurt that we just finished the Marvel movies and Thor is one of their favorite characters. If you like adventure stories with mythology, this is the book for you!

Thoroughly enjoyable adventure involving magic and Vikings. Had a very similar feel to Rick Riordan or the Harry Potter books. Excellent audio narrator.

Honestly a great read, I read it once when I was in middle school and remembered being enthralled with it, now nearly 10 years later it is just as good

The author has done their research on the mythologies and history portrayed and it shines through, even though it is aimed at younger audiences I recommend this for all ages

I did not expect to like this book. At first I did but then it got really boring but then it was so full of adventures with an author getting Norse mythology nice and fun. Magnus Chase is great and all but I liked the diversity and queer representation in it more than Viking mythology.

And this book was perfect. It was a bit too long but as I slowly realised towards the end, every scene even the previously labeled as boring, were significant. And towards the end, I wished why the story had to end. This was brilliant. Thank you Nancy.

I just reread this because I got the sequel but felt that it had been too long since I'd read this one and was afraid that I wasn't going to remember it well enough.

The first time I read it was awhile ago and I was much younger. I was able to appreciate how much research and effort went into this book much more the second time around.

I think Nancy Farmer did a great job staying true to her characters.

Jack is kidnapped (along with his little sister, Lucy) and taken to the court of King Ivar and his half troll queen Frith. When one of Jack's amateur spells causes the evil queen's beautiful hair to fall out, he has to undertake a dangerous quest

I actually listened to this one by myself because I needed something and wanted to try a Nancy Farmer series. It was just so so for me.

I didn't like it as much as House of the Scorpion, but I LOVE that book. This is a great read, and will be an easy booktalk.
