I wanted to know more about the bomb maker. What were his motives? Why go after the LA Bomb Squad? Did his relationship with his ex-wife cause it? I felt unsatisfied, and left hanging with so many questions.

Quick Synopsis: A serial bomber has started terrorizing Los Angeles. The bombs are devious, destructive and specifically intended to harm the very teams assigned to defuse them. A seasoned bomb technician may be the only chance to track down the bomber and stop him before he completes his mission, whatever it may be...

This was insightful and interesting. Terrific research was done here about bombs. It was tense and really intriguing. I didn’t care for the end though. I was hoping some detective work would have been done to track the bomber. Instead, Stahl stumbles upon a house he thinks has the explosives and blows it up. He never meets or interrogates the bomber. He doesn’t know for sure if the bomber is even the house. It’s still entertaining.

Very technical (i.e. Stephen-Hunter-on-guns-level of technical details) about bombs: timers, switches, contacts, the whole thing. Love the character building. In typical Perry fashion, the antagonist is as interestingly drawn as the protagonist.

What was a big downer in this book, however, was the abrupt and sudden ending. A couple of dangling plot threads, it seems. Or, if not dangling, not clarified in a way that would otherwise have been more satisfying. Not sure if Perry intends to expand this book into a series - I'd be into that - but the ending certainly left me with a big, "Wha?????"

Another fantastic thriller by one of the best in the business. If you like thrillers, you'll love Thomas Perry, and you'll really like this one. Anyone who writes a thriller should study Perry. Anyone who reads thrillers must read him.

A good book overall. I listened to the audiobook.
The cat and mouse chase, from the perspectives of both cat and mouse. And occasional victims. I guess it is not a spoiler in the book about the bomb maker. At first, I was not so sure about the romance storyline but it grew on me. And it actually made sense at the end. But... I kept looking at the progress bar as I was listening. 90% and we were nowhere near finished. And then I lost focus for 5 minutes and it was over. It could be a few pages (on in my case minutes) longer.
I will read more by T. Perry. Solid work.

Great book...Did not update this site in forever.

The book follows a retired LAPD and military bomb squad member who after half the bomb squad gets wiped out in one attack. Stahl comes back to run the squad until it is brought up back to strength. LAPD brought in FBI agents to help out.

Stahl was after a pro. A guy who knew what he was doing. Nothing was the same. Nothing was just thrown together willy nilly. The man was hired to get guns for goons who were impressed by his moxy and lack of respect for the authorities.

Stahl has to figure out who the bomber is and stop them before he gets the chance to kill more bomb squad members.
