I liked this. I enjoyed how the stories linked together.
My favourite bits were the teenage bits and the Sarah lee story at the end. Jami Attenberg has made it in to my favourite authors pile this year. I can't wait for her to write something else.

I always want to love story collections as much as a novel, and in the end miss that all-encompassing swept-away feeling, every time.

Links between the various stories often took too long to emerge, frustrating reading and not being sure which character is the focus of that chapter. Other than that it was good, if not a little depressing. It felt like no one had a positive experience of 'love' or relationships.

You may have already heard but I’m a big Jami Attenberg fan and this one recently became available at the library. I loved the structure of hearing from multiple women and bouncing back and forth between their lives and, in some way, seeing the grass is always greener perspective that we can have viewing other people’s lives. Attenberg has a knack for writing unattractive feelings without making it feel judgmental which I really love in her books. We’re all screwed up in our own ways.

Mostly forgettable, but with moments of brilliance, especially with characterizations.

Let's go with 3 1/2 stars. I liked the writing itself, it was fresh and interesting. The book, meh. It read like a bunch of short stories which you realized were all interconnected. And I do usually like a book with everything that sort of touches on everything else, but this one just didn't work for me.
