I liked this a lot more than I thought I would?? normally I'm not a huge fan of novellas especially compiled cuz I don't like every single one but these were all so interesting!! and I'm glad I read them after heir of fire instead of at the beginning bc it really adds to the experience when you start the next book bc you're like omg I just read about this character etc

Wow. I loved this. I didn’t even think I’d like it as I don’t usually enjoy novellas but I loved the way each carried on from each other to tell a story. I didn’t particularly like the first 2 novellas which were the Pirate Lord and the Healer but the other 3 I adored. I’ve missed being with Calaena. Also wow, I never thought I could ship her with another character but Rowan but Sam omg. My heart was broken, tears were in my eyes. Just reminds me of how much I hate Arobynn Hammel. I’m so mad she never told him she loved him back before he died!

I really enjoyed this book for the most part! I know there’s a bit of confusion as to what order to read this series in, but I found this book to be a great entry point and I don’t normally like novellas. I definitely enjoyed the first novella the most but all helped to build up the story (although the last one was intense and sad!) I’m definitely excited to read the rest of this series and see what happens to the characters!

ppl rant about how this is so necessary to the series but I really don’t see a reason? to be fair, i did read this after crown of midnight, but even if I read this before throne of glass, I think I wouldn’t have been 100 percent interested. I am 100 percent continuing the series, but this is kinda like the shatter me novels, good to read but aren’t necessary to the series

did like seeing background on Aelin/Celaena tho

p.s you could just read a summary on this and it would give similar effect
to be fair I hardly ever get attached to characters, only a select few and prequels don’t do much even if i am attached

*addition*
I did enjoy the last part, assassin and the empire, and this is where i grew more attached to the characters
