tom bombadil ignited something in my heart when i was reading lotr. he felt like a true fairytale character and i loved everything about him and his wife— they were nostalgic and new altogether.
my partner bought this for me and reading about tom bombadil, goldberry, and his other poems not only appealed to the fantasy loving kid in my heart, it made older me fill with a childlike joy while reading.
i also learned a lot more about tolkien from the foreword and introduction in my books copy; his poems also show us a more personal side to tolkien, which i also really enjoyed!

the nostalgic, lovely, beautiful, poetry and prose of tolkien is never lost. no matter what it is that he has written, i have loved and enjoyed each and every page.
tom bombadil is such an important figure in my mind in relation to tolkien and his universe(s), he is a figure of mystical uncertainty and yet still possesses a familiar sincerity and warmth that gives his character and his stories a particularly “childhood fairy-tale” feel.

Love the poems Tolkien wrote. Sometimes a bit hard to keep track of the story within them. But very cute. The essay with explanations were a bit studious for me at times as i like to interpret the stories on my own.

This is a fun collection of poetry! There's a little something for everyone. There are the misadventures of Tom Bombadil in "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil" and "Bombadil Goes Boating".  Fans of light-hearted verse will like "Princess Mee" and "The Man in the Moon Stayed Up Too Late". For those who like something darker, check out "The Mewlips".
