Honestly, I'm still so annoyed with how terribly Fidele's storyline was handled that it's kind of ruined my overall feelings for this series, especially since we spent so much time with her and Maquin in this book.
Overall I'm like... the end twist raised this to a 4. It might just be the headspace I'm currently in, but I generally dislike how the author has handled most of the female characters, the reveals felt mostly underwhelming, the conflict between Nathair and Veradis that I was looking forward to felt lacking, the timelines felt weirdly long, and the pacing felt off. Also too many POVs really, goodness.
Hilarious that this was the Battle of the Bastards before the Battle of the Bastards.

Did not disappoint me at all after the first book. I never feel like the story is just slogging along; there's always a purpose. I start liking characters more as they develop.
