This was an enjoyable read. I actually found the non-Doctor Who stuff more interesting than the Doctor Who stuff. Obviously, I'd bought this to read because I'm a Doctor Who fan but there wasn't a lot of new information here, but what is here is conveyed clearly and briskly.

I actually found the sections about working on Blake's 7, Secret Army, and Kessler kept my attention better, perhaps because I know less about them than the Doctor Who stories. Also interesting was the material on his time working in the Netherlands and, perhaps best of all, was the bits about sailing.

It seems to me that Michael E Briant is now more passionate about sailing than directing/producing and it comes across in the difference in tone when he's writing about the two. The chapter about his sailing around the world, which includes a story about being attacked by pirates, is marvellous.

Overall then an entertaining read and certainly much better than some books like this, which can just be a slog through an actor or director's credits. Come for the Doctor Who stuff, stay for the sailing stories.
