Scarlett’s family owns the Hopewell, a small hotel in New York City. When she and her siblings each turn 15, they are expected to care for a suite. Mrs. Amberson is the permanent guest that Scarlett inherits along with her suite, the Empire Suite. On top of that, Scarlett meets a gorgeous actor who is new to the city whom she falls hard for. Will she be able to handle it all?

A sweetly zany story of Scarlett, who lives in a New York hotel, her family, and her encounters with a fairly insane guest called Mrs Amberson. There's also Shakespeare, a cute boy, and family misunderstandings being resolved (but not in an overly sugary way). I liked it, and will definitely look out for more Johnson books.

Scarlette's life is unique... and her job even more so. With her boss taking over her life, romance confusing her at every turn, and her family's problem's, Scarlette doesn't think she'll ever make it through the summer. However, somehow, she must.

Cute YA romance. I would say 14+. Scarlett's family live in NYC in a hotel that's been in her family for generations. But things haven't gone so well financially so they all have to pitch in and she's in charge of a suite with an eccentric older actress. There's a lot of hijinx, they put on Hamlet, she falls in love with an 18 year old (but nothing much happens other than a well written couple of kisses). Nothing deep here but distracting.

Suite Scarlett and The Keys to the Golden Firebird are my favorite Maureen Johnson books so far. I'm really glad Suite Scarlett has a sequel because I want to spend more time with these characters.

I really really want to like Maureen Johnson's books, but so far they just aren't living up to my expectations. Her blog is hilarious, but so far her books... not so much.
