this is definitely my favorite one so far, but I wish there was more written about geralt & ciri’s relationship. I know these characters so well because of the show & what I know about the game, but I feel that their relationship isn’t very fleshed out in what I’ve read so far, even though it’s obvious they care for each other and are a family (including yennefer. yen & geralt’s and yen & ciri’s relationships are clearly defined and have been a focus so far, but I don’t feel the same has happened for geralt & ciri.) perhaps I’ve missed it but I just find it a bit odd. hopefully there’s more with those two in particular in the following books. I still loved this though

also… why there isn’t a single map in any of these books is BEYOND me. smh

Felt pretty meh about this book to be honest. A lot of the issues this series has with sexism were at the forefront in this one and a lot of the character development felt rushed or happened off page because of events that had nothing to do with said characters???? I can for sure see why some reviewers have said the prefer the short story collections to the novels in this series because that's about where I am right now. Hoping I like the next book more. The first half was way better than the second half in my opinion, but the sudden turn it took in the middle was where a lot of the poor execution of character development came in for me.

The Time of Contempt by Andrzej Sapkowski was average over all. It's very dialogue heavy which is fine but I felt more confused at the end of a conversation between characters than enlightened. There were many action scenes and some that went on for pages which are not my favorite since I'm more of a visual person. I also didn't enjoy the politics because I wasn't following along as easily as I had in previous books. Additionally, I knocked my rating down a star because of a scene that takes place towards the end of the book. In my opinion it was out of the blue and made me extremely uncomfortable because of the age and situation that this particular character found herself in. I have come to "overlook" the sexism and misogyny and other isms in this series but this might be the last straw. I'll definitely need to reasses whether I want to continue with the series.

The author is a genius at choosing which perspective to write from. It's this creative storytelling that makes it so interesting to read

The writing style is interesting. A lot of the action happens on the periphery of the narrative. That makes the world feel very alive. A lot happens away from the main characters. But that also makes it very complicated and difficult to keep track of what’s happening. The cast of characters is also very large, so keeping everyone straight can be tough. The plot is interesting and the characters are cool. I definitely want to know what happens next.
