I remember REALLY liking book one of this series. I knew it was going to be a trilogy, but figured I'd wait until I could read the final two back to back. So ... it has been a while since I read the first book. I remembered the basic story/characters, and it wasn't hard to get right back into the story.
While I do love post-apocalyptic stuff, sometimes it does get a little down and discouraging. I think I felt this here a bit. How much worse is it going to get?
Reading this as an adult ... it just doesn't feel like it has the same sophistication as many of the other books I read (much YA still). The writing isn't bad, it just is a little lacking (as it Michael Vey and some others). I don't know that teens would miss the layers, it might even make it easier for them to get through. I found myself hurrying through rather than really enjoying it.

Loved this book! It was a good follow up to Night of the Purple Moon and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I'd love to get this book into my son's middle school's Accelerated Reading program. It was a good clean story. It does contain some situations that are not suitable for younger children. But I think they are dealt with well.
I can't wait to read how the story concludes!
