A charming tale told with compassion and humor -- what's not to love? I was about to describe the character growth as a child's flaw in thinking: her identity as the faster chicken catcher in the village is all-important, even above her health. Then I took a hard look in the mirror. That really is a timeless lesson. I just hope more people start to learn it young, and that makes this picturebook not just fun and charming and well-illustrated but fighting an uphill battle for the good of everyone.

Lami lives in a Nigerian Village and is the best at catching chickens

Lami is the best chicken-catcher in her village, but when she can't use her fast feet to catch a chicken, she'll have to think of another way. This is a vibrant and joyful book about a young girl in Africa.

Another banger from Atinuke and Angela Brooksbank! This one take a bit of a turn towards the end with a kid injury, but I like the focus on ingenuity/problem solving. We might need this on hand at the children's reference desk to read to/with kids who won't slow down ha ha!
