Okay, where to start.
I think the main reason I’ve rated this lower than the previous books in the series is because I’m one of those people who highlights and annotates my books when I find something I like and I have about 10 annotations from this book. So, I’m taking that as a sign that either Michelle Paver didn’t use colourful enough language (in my opinion) or I just didn’t like it enough to annotate more.

The actual plot was easy to understand for the most part. Was it exciting? At parts. Was it tense? Not really. Was it confusing? A little. There was one major plot twist that I just found confusing and a key point in the plot surrounding Torak’s abilities (I’m guessing) that didn’t make sense to me (or the characters so I guess it’ll be explained in the next book).
The plot itself was interesting but it felt jumpy at parts, probably just because of the multiple POV’s but it did take me out of the zone a couple of times.

Despite all of this negative, I did finish the read and I never wanted to put it down. As I’ve said, the plot was interesting and the characters are always a good thing in this series so that made it a good read.

About recommendations, if you’re reading the series, definitely read this one, a lot happens that you will need to be aware of in the next books. But as an independent read? I don’t think I can recommend this one.
