Premise was generic but what I really didn't like was slow pacing and info dumping.

Unique magic system and interesting different types of “people” made this a good read. I enjoyed how there was just enough romance and teasing chemistry between Zander and Romy and although things get steamy, it doesn’t go into erotica that a lot of books do these days.
Some moments can be tropey and cringe and the pacing was also slow to start… but once that bit of world building was done, it’s go go go.
I feel Tucker could have had the world building written a little more organically through characters opposed to basically information dump in certain chapters that made it a slog to get through at those times.
Looking forward to next book and hopefully characters get fleshed out some more.

DNF I don’t like doing this as I totally fell in love with her Wolf Hotel series, but this one just didn’t grab me. It is more fantasy and I don’t have issues with that genre. I got half in and felt she was still character building. I was in the mood for something faster so skipping this series.

I devoured this book. It was definitely setting the scene for the next books in the series, already started the second, excited to have more things uncovered.
