It's not my favourite so far. Even though the setting sounded amazing, I am just not one for war related crimes. I like that there's a little more backstory on secundary characters such as Judy.

The mystery itself felt super mediocre and the final conclusion was a little farfetched, but that's okay. For some reason Ruth Galloway has me hooked haha.

I really liked it there was no 'diary style' subplot in there like in the previous books. The third person view, switching its focus on different character, works better for me.

So this is the first book of the series that I have read and I didn’t feel like I missed a major chunk of the story. I enjoyed the background story that was plying out for the characters alongside the stories mystery. At first I did find it a bit boring to be honest when they were investigating deaths from years ago but then it got juicy and I was hooked needing to know more. I probably won’t rush back to read another book but I am intrigued to know how the story of Kate plays out

I am really enjoying the Ruth Galloway series. She's remained such a relatable heroine that I always continue to root for, and the ongoing storyline of her personal life never gets in the way of the mystery in each story. I enjoyed this one as the central mystery was very different to the previous two, with plenty of twists, turns and red herrings. I now own the first ten novels in this series so I'm looking forward to continuing - there was a very interesting nugget right at the end of this one!
