I love a good regency romance. Of course I snatched this one up. Grumpy sunshine is a fun trope. But sometimes on audio it can go awry...
A widower falls for a grumpy lord something or other.
The male narrator sounded like my grandpa. Listening to this was disturbing in a lot of ways due to that. So. Effing. Nasty. Perhaps this could be ok in print? This was 80 year old man all over a "wanton widow". 🤢

I listened to the audiobook of this on Spotify. I enjoyed this steamy second chance story between a grumpy Earl and the one that got away.
Max (the Earl) is a widower who has sent his son off to college. Even before his wife's passing he was always considered a grump, and people tended to stay away from him. Years ago, he had loved another woman, but after being rejected in favor of another man, he becomes sullen and cross. Imagine his surprise when his first love knocks on his door in the middle of a cold wintry night.
Patience is a recent widow and after seeing her son off as he gallivants around the globe, she decides to travel to the country to wait out his return. When her carriage wheel breaks, she finds that they have stopped in front of Max's estate. Seeking shelter and warmth from the outside elements, she knocks on his door not knowing how she will be received.
I liked the narrator, but when he narrated Max's lines, it brought to my mind Ebenezer Scrooge, and it kind of threw me off because I didn't think Max was that old lol.

The MMC is definitely the king of grump and the narrator of the audiobook made him sounds like a grand-dad. So very not swoon worthy material.
It's a short story but I got lost with too many characters which didn't help to know who we were talking about. Also it limited a proper development for the reunion of the main couple. They barely reconnect and bang. I would have need more talking and unpacking of their past.

Oh I loved this story. I was absolutely thrilled that the writer chose an older couple who took the chance to find passion again in their lives. Not only did Patience and Max, but Janet and Patience driver. The story was short and extremely sweet, but also very hot.

Quick paced hallmark-esque book with some spicy bits. I enjoyed listening to this in audio and laughed out loud more than once.
