Truly thought provoking and gripping. A classic from the god father of manga. I dislike that this printing has flipped the original Japanese.

I love the gekiga-ness of this visually, the full page spreads of Identical Businessman/manipulative swirly twisted Gay, the character design, etc etc. tezuka always manages to leave me super unsettled and uhh yeah definitely got that from this too! but also unlike MW the "aren't human beings horrible" bits of this felt useless and unnecessarily mean? instead of being disgusted and being satisfied when things Come to a Head, I'm more like. that sucked.... ok it's resolved ig.... whatever. maybe this goes back to the MC hm. I like what he's going for with the main character, who isn't really a character ?? as much as she's a bunch of Gekiga Character Traits loosely tied together (which is perfectly fine for this kind of manga), but:
1) the parallel to post-war Japan felt weirdly abrupt (wth was with the anarchist guy, and the Korean govt, and the business stuff, and her birth year, and the final panel) and not nearly as Nicely Incorporated as it was in MW and
2) I wasnt sure how her manipulation of the women in this ... sat with me? the secretary was to get to her husband, so maybe she doesn't count, but the actresses in the past, the writer in the beginning, the traditional lookalike (god this character was terrible), there's Potential there but it just doesn't. go anywhere to make space for the Bringing Down of Evil Men and also
3) just didn't feel anything for her, positive or negative 😔 her mommy issues were more awkward than interesting too

so so many gr8 panels and just. expressions and stuff. but man this was disappointing
