Wow. 10,000 stars. I loved this book so much. It was beautifully written (I adore books written in verse) and I loved reading Artemisia’s mother’s stories. Artemisia is such a strong character (of course) and her emotion and story was just so bold and heart wrenching. She was just a gorgeous character and I could not put this book down. I read it in one sitting because it’s so short! Plus, I finished it and pretty much immediately wanted to read it again. Please pick this up. It’s important and beautiful and so emotional. In a good way.

An Amanda Bloomer pick (feminist books for children and youth). A teen artist during the Renaissance in Italy is expected to paint even though her father gets the credit. Intersperses stories of strong women from the Bible who inspire her as she faces many challenges. Told primarily in verse, based on a real artist whose recently-discovered painting sold for millions.

Book 1/25 of #hubchallenge2019.

Poetry is still not my favorite thing so it's on a purely selfish note that I don't give this any more stars. It's ambitious and beautiful and a really great way to tell a remarkable, painful story (stories? Susanna and Judith are here, too).

Such a powerful punch in a small package! This is such a powerful story and at times absolutely frustrating reading about the injustice and prejudice against Artemisia. This novel in verse, though not my favorite style, complemented the story beautifully. The language and form invoked the essence of a dream-like world even though it is rooted in historically accurate details. There are smaller stories in between the main story that were as equally wonderful. This book truly shows the strength of women. Great read!

Putting this book aside for now. It's a gorgeous book but it's way too heavy for life at the moment. I hope I'll get a chance to pick it up again when the time is better.
