Wow, this is disheartening. Written 20 years ago, and it seems like nothing has changed. Sidel focuses largely on the targeting of welfare recipients and the myriad of ways they can't escape the system. She talks at length about the republican-held congress of the mid-90s, and ways in which reform could happen. Given today's political climate, we're looking at another long 20 years for women and children on welfare.
