This book covers a range of facts about eggs. Fascinating themes and pictures make this a book you read slowly and absorb. Beautiful illustrations and sentence structures that feel almost poetic.

Beautiful, informative. I like that they wanted to include cultural significance rather than just the scientific, but it felt rushed. The cultural/religious parts focused mainly on Imperialist countries (U.S., Britain, Russia) and dominant religions (Christianity).

The Egg (2017) was written and illustrated by Britta Teckentrup. It would be best for upper elementary students. This informational text covers many interesting facts about eggs, such as the reason for different shapes, different kinds of birds' eggs, and how they are used in cultural and religious traditions. While it mostly focuses on bird eggs, it touches on reptile, insect, and even mammal eggs as well.
This would be a good book to make available for independent research for upper elementary students--it contains a lot of information, but it is in manageable portions on each page, which would make it accessible for this age.
