Wow. This book was awesome. It was so captivating and fascinating and... I just can't... It was so good and so emotional. It made me feel all these different feelings between hope and pain. And also I think this book was so good because it felt so real. Because it wasn't just a dystopian, imagined far far away. It was a dystopian only a few years and a few "what if"s away from our todays reality. So please read this book.

Couldn't put this one down! Highly recommend this dystopian novel -- one that feels all too close to our current reality. Definitely adding to my school library.

3.5 stars. It's dystopian, but also not. It hits very close to reality, minus the microchipping. Otherwise, it was almost too real. And just tragedy upon tragedy upon tragedy. It took me awhile to read since it was so intense.

Sanctuary was on display at a branch of my public library so I picked it up and it was a gem. It’s hard to read at times, both gruesome and sad. If you can handle that, this is a powerful story about an undocumented family in a 2032 USA that has installed microchips into the arms of all “legal residents.”

Vali and her mother don’t have chips, but her little brother does since he was born in the United States. The story starts with a tense peace and quickly moves to a gripping plot about Vali’s family trying to escape the US and make it to California.

Inspired by real events during 45’s administration, this book will make you feel deeply and think about how we can protect all people. With great characters and a plot that you can look away from, Sanctuary offers so much in a small package. I highly, highly recommend this one for your TBR.

this book is supposed to be a near future dystopian but the story is all too real. i was gutted and terrified while reading because i know something like this is happened to people i know. it was really insightful in showing the journey of undocumented people running for their freedom in a better country. my one complaint is that i felt that the side character should have been more fleshed out but still i loved it
