I have read 40 of Dean Koontz’s other books which is 10 more than the author who comes after him. Statistically speaking, this makes him my favorite author. Therefore, I will have to admit this one was my least favorite book of the now 41 read.

I don’t care about espionage and cold war and I don’t believe in hypnosis or doppelgängers. Yes, it is fiction, yes, I don’t have to believe in fantasy to enjoy it, but I just couldn’t bond with any part of the story or the characters.

This book shows no sign of the classic Dean Koontz humor or compassion.  He actually admits to this to some extent at the end of the book, in the “afterword”, so I don’t feel too treacherous to put it in this review.
