Are you looking for a book about a waterbender spy? That's most of what you'll be getting in this book, since it's in fact *not* a book about Yangchen (considering she doesn't appear as much as the other guy). I am overexaggerating a bit, she does appear a lot. She's just not *the* main character... in her own book. I did enjoy the book, I just feel like the title is misleading.

Spoiler review:

They skip past to Yangchen being 17, already a master of all elements and spiritual leader. Since it was the "Dawn of Yangchen" I was assuming we'd get more of the backstory. We just skip some of her big spirit fights and go straight into the spy intrigue (so she's already established some kind of good reputation). It wasn't a bad decision, I just think the title was misleading.

Earlier I said how Kyoshi is unhinged. Yangchen is also unhinged, but in a different way. Kyoshi is unhinged cause she's just sassy or doesn't know the right thing to say. Yangchen is actually just a menace and she knows she's a menace. It's just another funny dynamic. I did prefer Kyoshi's personality though, her accidentally being incredibly rude and her girlfriend shouting at her lmao.

It's quite sad how Yangchen aspires to be like her previous reincarnation and says maybe she'll be known as a mediocre avatar after her era... when she's actually known as one of the best avatars in recent history. Definitely better than Szeto, Kuruk and Roku at least.
