Even though the ending felt extremely rushed and a little too tidy, there is just something about Josie Silver's writing that I enjoy. The big, loud Italian (American) family spoke to my heart (and in New York no less!), and made me fall in love with virtually every one of the characters. I was hoping for a little more from this book overall, but for a holiday romance, I can't complain at all. Vanilla forever!
On another note though - This was my book club's first book of the year and it caused a lot of hurt feelings when discussing it.There is an abusive relationship reveal at some point, though not graphic specifically, we did have some members who talked about it a little too simply, not reflecting sensitivity toward individuals in an abusive relationship. While this was not necessarily the author or book's fault specifically, I think that because certain members felt as though the description of abuse did not reflect what they felt as "traumatic," insensitive comments about the character's inability to leave an abusive relationship were met with hurt feelings. It ended up leaving a negative feeling towards the book, even though I initially enjoyed my time reading it.
On another note though - This was my book club's first book of the year and it caused a lot of hurt feelings when discussing it.

This book has some well-rounded characters and really nice imagery. I felt like I was in a New York movie and it was a wonderful break from reality. The plot moved at an odd pace for me- it felt like some elements moved extremely quickly, whereas others dragged on for seemingly no reason. The climax and ending felt a bit cliched, but generally added to the charm of this cute winter read.

This was a good lighthearted read. Nothing too crazy. I appreciated the shorter length of the third act breakup, I thought it blended into the story well

I loved the premise: Coming across a place her mother had been and a secret gelato recipe.
The added layer of why she was in New York adds a realness to the story.
I enjoyed the Italian-American family, all the sisters, and the family business.
I didn’t love the secrets. She lied by omission and after their first meeting, it became deceptive.
Overall, a fun read.
