I picked this up as part of my continuation in this series.
"Komi Can't Communicate, Vol. 8" continues to follow Komi. Komi is a socially anxious high schooler who has made it her mission to make 100 friends. The only hurdle she faces is that she gets too nervous to actually speak to her peers. In this volume, the school takes a trip, a first for Komi, but with her new and potential friends by her side, she feels confident she will have a good time.
This volume was very okay. It was fun seeing the characters in a new setting, and it is great to see Komi pushing herself in new ways. Komi is forced to room with two girls she does not know, which is a great opportunity for her to meet new people, but it also causes a lot of tension for her. This volume definitely has some dramatized scenes that felt over-the-top for the situation the characters were in.
I am still curious about this series and will be picking up volume 9 soon!

Highlights
➽ I loved this volume so much, as it follows Komi on her class trip to Kyoto!! She's very nervous about the trip as it's outside of her comfort zone and the last time she skipped out on the trip, as she had no friends in class. This time, Tadano is there to reassure her, but Komi ends up in a smaller group with two girls she doesn't know well: Kato and Sasaki. I related to her awkwardness as it's tough to be in a group with classnates that aren't part of your friendgroup. I've experienced this enough times in high school as I had classes and events that none of my friends were part of. In the end, Komi, Kato and Sasaki end up having a lot of fun, even though they initially don't agree on how to use their allocated free time. Kato and Sasaki want Komi to have a great time, but almost go overboard with their plans! It was nice seeing Komi grow closer with two girls she hadn't known well before!
➽ I loved the setting for the class trip and it made me nostalgic, as I visited Kyoto myself last autumn! There were a lot of fun moments with a young tour guide trying to prove herself and their overnight stay at a traditional inn (that turns into a pillow fight). Tadano has some hilarious moments with his own assigned group and Komi ends up having more fun than she imagined!
