this was so good — miller really takes you inside her head and does so with vivid and beautiful writing. i had to stop at 58% because i was having a physical reaction to reading this book. super good, but definitely one to check in with yourself as you’re reading it.

i was so moved by this book. this was raw, powerful, gut-wrenching and heartbreaking. this memoir made me angry, disappointed and devastated to the point where i teared up and cried multiple times. yet, it also gave me hope. miller shows us what hope is like in the face of suffering. hope to persevere, to keep going, to not let grief and suffering to drown oneself, to not let others define who we are, but instead, to know that we are enough, and that we can forge our own path.

miller's resilience, courage and perseverance is truly a testament to her strength, and has been incredibly encouraging to read about. chanel miller, thank you for writing this. i needed this more than i knew.

to everyone that hasn't read this yet, i encourage you to pick it up. it'll be hard, but it'll be worth every second of your time.

"From grief, confidence has grown, remembering what I've endured. From anger, stemmed purpose. To tuck them away would mean to neglect the most valuable tools this experience has given me. If you're wondering if I've forgiven him, I can only say hate is a heavy thing to carry, takes up too much space inside the self. It's true that I'll never stop hoping that he learns. If we don't learn, what is life for? If I have forgiven him, it's not because I'm holy. It's because I need to clear a space inside myself where hard feelings can be put to rest."
