A difficult and heart-wrenching book that should be mandatory reading for anybody who is not a survivor of SA. Miller’s writing is gorgeous. It is clear, frank, uncomplicated, unapologetic, and approachable. I was continually amazed by the straightforwardness and brilliance of her words.

So poignant, so powerful. This book will stay with me.

This was so well written. I found parts incredibly sad and listen to the audio book often left me with tears streaming down my face (so best to wait to listen when you are in a comfortable area). I was sad for Chanel, being forced into this situation, at the statistics on how hard getting a guilty verdict is, how insignificant the fines and jail time were vs the lasting impact this has had to Chanel and her family, friends, coworkers, among others.

I’m frustrated at the situation, but Chanel was able to try to infuse some hope in her story; the changes this case has made, how many people were able to rally behind ‘Emily Doe’ and this hope is a glimmer of light from this dark situation.

I’m thankful Chanel is so eloquent in her word choices and at getting her point across. This is brilliantly written, but it is not - and shouldn’t be - an easy read. There were moments you could hear how hard it was for Chanel to read, and it may sound silly, but I’m proud of her for adding her voice along with her name and story.

This was one of the best books I've read, like, ever. Another reviewer described the book as evoking "feminine rage," and that's the best way to put it. All of the feelings that have been stuffed inside of women practically since we're born--the sadness and anger and outrage and heartache--at the treatment of women is brought to the surface in this story. Miller's writing made me cry, made me pissed, and made me feel so connected to other women, all while sitting alone in my chair and reading her story. Truly, one of the best writer's of our generation, I'll read anything else she writes forever. Notably, a very difficult read, but a necessary one.

Here is my favorite line from the book:
“in court they’ll try to make you believe you are unlike the others, you are different, an exception. you are dirtier, more stupid, more promiscuous. but it’s a trick. the assault is never personal, the blaming is.”
That right there is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
miller is an absolutely incredible writer. so so gifted and her story is so important to hear
