It was a good book. At times it was a bit slow for me and I dreaded reading it further.
Also the slow burn between Kai and Paedyn is really well made, for me it was too slow and the tension wasn’t relieved which was really frustrating
the ending was really good and tense - you find yourself longing for part 2

What an amazing debut from Lauren Roberts! Powerless was such a fun, exhilarating ride. I’m typing this as soon as I finished and my heart is still pounding like crazy.

First, I’m so grateful that though Pae and Kai share similar spunk and vibes, they had unique voices so switching POVs wasn’t so hard considering that it wasn’t exactly alternating between chapters.

Second, I’m definitely here for all their banter. Having come from a previous book I DNF’d because of bad banter (and I thought I just grew out of that), Powerless does it so, so well. I was squealing through chapters of endless undeniable chemistry and witty comebacks. I didn’t even care much for the fact that I was being dragged into their romance more than the actual plot—which was still moving, by the way, but come on, Kai Azer??? Swoon.

Oh, but the book doesn’t just do the romantic tension well. The plot is thick and heavy and I’m surprised it actually goes deeper than initially offered. It’s a mix of quite a few things but done so well so far, and I just hope the end of the trilogy delivers a satisfying closure to all of it. It’s ambitious to say the least but exciting all the same.

I totally get the hype around it. It’s definitely worth picking up, and I fear picking up the sequel so soon knowing it’s gonna take a while before the last book gets released!

I love this book. I don't like Kitt not even gonna lie. It had me sweating and everything. Kai is just...wonderful. The way he speaks about her and to her, you can just tell her is head over heels.

“Remind me to to make you smile like that again, when you aren't dying, and I have all the time in the world to memorize it.”

The world of Powerless is one of the most straight-forward fantasy series I've ever read. The world-building was easily understandable (with of course, a little mystery of how it came to be) and I was just immediately hooked. Paedyn is an Ordinary, which in the Kingdom of Ilya is a crime - punishable by death. Kai, on the other hand, is a prince of Ilya who's responsible to killing Ordinaries. When they say it's an enemies-to-lovers trope, it really is. They, at some point, have to really kill each other and at the same time, fall in love in the process.

The romance in this book is really just one of the best I've read in a fantasy. The banter. The who-did-this? The secret identity. The freaking tension! The betrayals. The DUAL POV! I can list more but that's just really the top of my head. I devoured this so much, I just wanted to stay at home and read. I would have said that I wish I had seen more of Paedyn and Adena's friendship throughout the book but I guess that's why the author has written Powerful which is Adena's point of view throughout the Powerless story. The flaws I found is that when compared to Hunger Games, the voting wasn't really that beneficial and in my opinion, was really redundant. There was no real advantage if you're voted top stop or if there was, it wasn't explicitly explained unlike in HG.

I've gotten this book earlier this year but was scared to read it because people all over social media adored it. So when Reckless was released, I was notified by our nearby bookstore that it's available and they have reserved it for me. So I had to get it and to finally start reading this book. Second week of July was definitely just me devouring the series.
