Takes too long to get going - too many technical details and political space race stuff.

The science was great, but the characters left a lot to be desired. Almost all of them sounded exactly the same. I loathed the main character.

Shoutout to @authormichaelreidjr for the boss recommendation! This book is about trying to make it to Saturn before another government can get there. The characters were fun and interesting and the book is pretty fast paced with the exception of a few spots that were basically dredging through the scientific mud. I wish there had been more aliens, but I love them so are we surprised that that’s a hang up for me when u read science fiction that doesn’t have aliens?! lol overall still really enjoyable read. 4/5 check this out if you are looking for some government intrigue with your spaceships!

Exciting tale of a race to Saturn between US and Chinese superpowers.
Fast moving, engaging, with twists and turns, aliens, intrigue, and even some romance.
Read John Sanford's Prey books way back when and picked this up on the basis of knowing I enjoyed those.
Was not disappointed.

A genuinely fun, science heavy tale about a future (but all-too-familiar) version of humanity trying to get to Saturn first. Not quite as many laughs as The Martian, but I definitely felt like I was back in the same universe. The politics, backstabbing and science make for a really fast 465 pages. Highly recommend.

This is the first book I've read by Sanderson or Ctein. I will be looking for more as this is one of the best hard sci-fi books I've ever read. Great characters, plausible alien AI, very believable political issues that intrude on the science, as they so often do.
