This classic was a short read yet still remained quite thought provoking. The main character (who also played as the narrator) seems to be an operating sociopath who lives in the present, as he does not fit in with conventional societal morals but can operate well in society itself. He has a job, a lover, and friends (in that each of these things provides either pleasure or entertainment for him). The narrator seems logical and cold in the first part of the book, but in the second part I felt that he was a little more personable. I do think the narrator’s reasoning for the murder was flawed as blaming the sun for killing someone is a poor excuse and very odd. It reminded me of the time that a therapist yelled at my sister while claiming that the sun was the reason for all of her problems. Needless to say, she did not go back to that particular therapist. Omitting key facts in the story did make it more interesting in that I had to piece together what actually happened. (I honestly think that the narrator wanted to feel what it was like to take a life and could not put that into reasonable words hence blaming the sun).

The last two pages of this book blew my mind. I re-read it way too often.
