While I did enjoy this, it did drag a bit in the middle areas. I also encountered this in the first book which makes me nervous to continue but all in all it was a good book!! The plot twists towards the end are unexpected and definitely had me shook! It was a good read tho!!!

Raelia follows Alex as she returns to Medora for her second year at Akarnae academy. Alex continues to struggle with the repercussions of Aven’s actions in the first novel, and increasingly turns her focus toward the lost city of Meya and the ancient race of Meyarins.

Look, these books aren’t well written. I said it with Akarnae and I’ll say it again with Raelia: they’re written about as well as my high school creative writing assignments. The writing style is juvenile, under-developed, and just clunky as fuck. While the writing didn’t hugely impede my enjoyment of Akarnae, it significantly affected my ability to get into this book.

Raelia has all the hallmarks of a great story: adventures to new worlds, political intrigue, fae and elves, side quests, new creatures, and more. But the juvenile/under-developed writing style failed to deliver any mystery, romance, chemistry, or suspense, and lessened the impact of all major plot points.

It’s frustrating as fuck because I adored the world of the first novel. I knew the writing was flawed but couldn’t wait to get back to this world; it almost felt like it could be a new Harry Potter for me! Then I pick up Raelia and find that the writing hasn’t improved at all, it’s potentially gotten worse.

S I G H.

I’m going to keep reading because I want to recapture the magic I felt in the first novel, but the writing damn well better improve. I expect more from my YA!

Another fun romp through the day to day life of Alex and her friends at Akarnae. The middle section was kind of slow for me, but it did pick up again and ended with a shocking twist of events.

WHY JORDAN??? WHY?!!! It makes absolutely no sense he would
ask Aven to be claimed when he knew he could possibly be forced to hurt his friends!!
.
I overall really enjoyed this book but after the 60% it started to feel a like flat for me. I still loved it there was just some things like Jordan’s and D.C’s relationship developing really fast, Alex’s ability to be perfect at everything, weird pacing and (to be blunt) the nonsensical ending that bothered me.

This book was...
SO INTENSE!!
But it was REALLY GOOD!
I know they say that magic doesn't exist, but how can it not when there's such a beautifully created book like this?!?
I was transported into Medora when I lay my eyes on the first word of the book.
I put this down as a 'tear shedder' because you have no idea how hard it was hard it was to breathe when *holds back sobs* Jordan got
Spoiler claimed by Aven.

Overall, this book is fantastic!
