Patiko daugiau sužinoti apie Everestą, kas ir kada kopė į jį, kaip jiems sekėsi. Bet pats Messner kopimas man pasirodė toks savęs žalojimas, kad negalėjau tuo mėgautis.

Oh, this book hit allll my mountain climbing sweet spots. Himalayas? Check. Kathmandu? Check. Everest? Check. Ascent? Death Zone? Sherpas? Check check check. It all them all, then ascended (haha) past them and took me higher. Messner did not keep the spotlight on his ego, but rather looked out into the world he was passing through and reflected on what he saw. He was able to describe his own Western ambitions, how they differed from Eastern thought and culture, and how he was and was not able to bridge the two.
He gave an unflinchingly honest account of his time, including not always complimentary journal excerpts from his then girlfriend, Nena Holguin. Is it easy to climb up to the top of the highest mountain in the world? Reader, it is not. The photos and the text combined to create an amazing travelogue of a place in the world that has long fascinated me.
