The follow-on to the author's excellent Adventures with Waffles, Trille and his adventurous friend Lena have grown by a couple of years. Both of them are slices-of-life, growing up, episodic books with loose whole-book threads. The first one takes place when they are about nine years old and is a little more simplistic, reminiscent of Pippi Longstocking (but better!). This sequel takes place when they are 11-12 and things are a bit more serious, they're growing up more, but still with a healthy dose of curiosity, humor, and adventure.
I adored the book and my daughter does too. I'm not sure of the differences in the translation from the Norwegian, but it was just enough different from the American experience to get a good sense of what life is like on an isolated Norwegian island, but with modern tablets and mobile phones. A little simpler than the Penderwicks but similar in tone and style.

Fin bok i fint univers.

Anbefales!

When I discovered there was a sequel to Adventures with Waffles, we jumped on it. This one isn’t published in the U.S. yet, but Book Depository came through. We thoroughly enjoyed this hilarious and delightful story. I appreciated that the author aged up Trille and Lena and while keeping true to the milestones of their new stages, she still kept it innocent enough for the younger crowd to enjoy (though parents should expect to have to explain menopause if kiddos aren’t familiar — also, that was the part that had my 13 year old and myself rolling the most). All in all, we loved it and I’m thrilled Ms. Parr wrote a sequel.
