broder has such a way with making me identify so genuinely with a character then making me absolutely despite that person. the entire i was flipping between love and mild annoyance.

Unexpectedly close to home for me -- a dead/dying dad with a strong association with music and the southern California desert. So I stuck with it for that. But I don't think the "lost in the wilderness" storyline really worked for me here. It felt like I'd already seen this, in the ending of Beef with Ali Wong, and in Lauren Groff's Vaster Wilds. I feel like I wanted more from some of the themes -- like the spouse with a chronic illness -- and they got wrapped up too neatly

This book was refreshingly different. It was trippy, funny, heartbreaking, poignant, and absurd all at once which made for a quick read! A different look at grief.

The first half seemed like there would be something more exciting than what was given. I didn’t enjoy listening to someone complain for hours about how hard it is for her for her loved ones to be in pain.
