I picked three omnibus books of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for cheap at Indigo years ago. I lost them among my TBR and finally refound them this year. I decided it was time to tackle these monsters...
Book #1: Coyote Moon is an absolute hoot and the highlight of this collection. It's a fun circus/carnival themed book that will have you on the edge of your seats. It was a solid 4/5 and I need more with that kind of engaging fun.
Book #2: Night of the Living Rerun focuses on the Salem Witch Trials being "relived" through our lead characters. It's a unique spin on a tale that's been told many times and it was a solid 3/5 that I think Buffy fans will really get a kick out of.
Book #3: Portal Through Time is the odd man out in this series. It's slow, it's awkward, and it doesn't fit with the pace and writing style of the other two books. It being last made me feel like I was dragging my feet through this book. They really needed a different style of book to end this omnibus since the first two were really fun and fast paced reads. Not my thing, so 1/5.
Overall, great collection! I'm sure Buffy fans will enjoy them.

These three stories of Buffy Summers, which occur during and just after the first season, make a girl feel good. Life has never been the same since the series ended, and works such as these allow an addict her fix, as reruns can only go so far.
Each story is enjoyable and fun. Coyote Moon captures the characters' personalities the best and was the most entertaining and well written of the three. Night of the Living Rerun and Portal Through Time gave us some insigt into other slayers, but the scope of their stories were so large that their effects should have been seen in the television series had they actually taken place in Buffy's life.
Regardless of their lack of chronological order, or whether or not they truly make sense in the larger scheme of things, I am most definitely looking forward to volumes 2 and 3.

I really wanted to love this book, but honestly I had to keep forcing myself to skim the book and finish it. There’s 3 novels in this one book, and none of them really wowed me. Each one had a plot that had already been similarly played out in the show. Except for the last story, which just seemed a bit out of the realm of the Buffyverse. And I feel like the authors didn’t fully grasp the characters and their voices. The whole book just seemed a little forced. If you’re into sci-fi and fantasy, check it out. But as a major Buffy fan, this one misses the mark.

I may have read this years ago, but I remember it pretty well despite that. The stories themselves were relatively unremarkable. But I remember liking the first two in this volume well enough at the time. I was just getting into the show, which I never actually finished. So this was a fun tie-in. But I remember the third section of the book dragging. It was much longer. I wasn't interested in reading the following volumes and ultimately stopped watching the show because I realized...vampires aren't really my thing. So I moved on and haven't looked back since.

I love Buffy, so it was easier to overlook some negatives in this book, but it really could have been much better. The first story, Coyote Moon, had some pretty awful writing. It was very simplistic and felt like a mediocre fanfiction, though the actual story was decent. Not great, but entertaining enough.
The other two stories were better. The stories were more developed and in depth and the writing was an improvement as well. Still not great, but I think that maybe trying to capture the dialogue style of the show made it difficult as it just made it seem kind of cheesy.
I didn't like that the stories took place in the beginning, shortly after Buffy became the slayer. If you're a fan (like I am), its kind of hard to just forget about everything that happened throughout the series and go back with a clean slate. But, being such a huge fan, I guess some iffy Buffy stories are better than none at all, so it was ok reading. I wanted more, but will deal with what I can get.

I love me some buffy, but I couldn't give the book (which is actually 3 books in 1 volume) 5 stars bc the 1st book was just not that good. The story wasn't that interesting & the dialogue & behavior of the main characters were not consistent with the show. The 2nd 2 books more than made up for it though. The 3rd book was soooo good, & I really got into it (but angel was also in that one so I might be biased). This was the first buffy book I ever read. I'll definitely be getting the 2nd volume. :)
